The James Center for Student Success and Advising supports professional development programming and opportunities for students to meet the requirements while earning their teacher education degree.

A minimum of 20 completed Professional Development Activities related to one or more of the Teaching Standards must be completed by the end of the Student Teaching Semester.

Tracking Your Professional Development

All teacher education majors are required to track and document their professional development activity. The professional development reflection is comprised of three prompts, know as a 3-2-1 Exit Ticket Reflection, and you will write a reflection for each professional development event you attend.

Professional Development in your Teaching Career

Professional development is a licensure requirement for teachers in North Carolina to maintain their educator license. The North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards are the basis for teacher preparation, teacher evaluation, and professional development. Each of these will include the skills and knowledge needed for the 21st century teaching and learning.
