Michael Jones

Michael Jones is a native of New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree in History from Clarion University. After graduation, he spent several years working in social services in different capacities throughout New York City. He completed his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University in 2018. After he completed his Master’s Degree, he transitioned to working in higher education. He lived in areas such as Baltimore, Maryland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before making his way to Appalachian State in October 2021. He previously worked at Iona College, Towson University, and Penn State University. He has worked in many student life and support roles including Student Development and Activities, Residence Life, Student Conduct, Greek Life, Academic Success Coaching and Academic Advising. 

Michael is passionate about working with students from varied and marginalized backgrounds, especially first-generation students, LGBTQIA + students, and students returning for a degree later in life. He completed his Master’s Thesis on providing support for Student Veterans that are adjusting to college life. His approach to working with students is from a holistic approach and a students first perspective. In his spare time, Michael enjoys traveling throughout the country, attending concerts and watching college sports.
