Teacher Education candidates must complete required testing components as they pursue an education degree.
EdTPA
edTPA is a performance-based, subject-specific assessment and support system used by teacher preparation programs throughout the United States to emphasize, measure and support the skills and knowledge that all teachers need from Day 1 in the classroom. It is a summative, performance-based assessment that is completed during student teaching. It assesses a teacher candidate's ability to plan, teach, and assess a unit of instruction.
All candidates seeking initial licensure in North Carolina will be required to submit qualifying scores on the appropriate edTPA performance-based, subject-specific assessment.

Licensure Exams
All teacher education candidates must complete required licensure exams before they can be recommended for licensure (Professional Educator's Initial License). It is strongly recommended that candidates take their required licensure tests before their student teaching internship, and tests must be taken before they complete student teaching.
Most candidates will complete Praxis exams. Please review your particular testing requirements at the RCOE Licensure and Certification page.
