The Appalachian Community of Education Scholars (ACES) program seeks to develop teacher leaders who will positively impact the profession through their skills in critical thinking, collaboration, reflective practice, and advocacy for equity and inclusion.
Program Highlights
The Appalachian Community of Education Scholars (ACES) promotes teacher leadership through rich, multifaceted programming focused on mentoring, leadership, service, and professional development. Members are active participants and leaders within the Appalachian Educators Club and Reich College of Education, in addition to a wide variety of campus activities. Campus leadership includes the representation on the Chancellor’s Student Advisory Board, the Student Government Association, Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders, Appalachian Ambassadors, Education Peer Ambassadors, and Chancellor’s Scholars. ACES relies on the collaboration and support of offices across campus, including University Admissions, University Housing, Career Development, University Scholarships, and the Chancellor’s Office.
The ACES program continues the legacy of teacher leadership that was provided by the Teaching Fellows program for over 25 years. The ACES program provides a sense of camaraderie for future educators that promotes a passion for teaching. ACES students participate in service projects and unique professional development opportunities. ACES also connects participants with a well-established network of education professionals across that state of North Carolina and beyond.
